MINI is set to create a high-performance sequel to its JCW GP.
When questioned by Brit mag Autocar about whether a replacement for the old MINI JCW GP was likely, the BMW-owned British car-maker's boss Peter Schwarzenbauer replied "I think so", before telling the journalist that he thought the GP model was "an important part of the MINI brand".
"It has worked well for us in the past and I don't see why not in the future", he added.
Just 30 of the last 2013 MINI JCW GPs came to Australia.
Differing from the standard Cooper S, the GP came with adjustable suspension, active dampers, lightweight alloy wheels, larger Brembo brakes, sports seats and a stripped out interior.
Under the bonnet the 1.6-litre turbo produced 160kW -- 29Nm more than the Cooper S.
Top speed was rated at 242km/h, while the 0-100km/h dash took just 6.3 seconds.
According to Autocar, the new GP will stick to the original formula but not be on sale until 2019, as the earliest, because historically the fastest most extreme MINI normally arrives shortly before the whole range is replaced.
