MINI John Cooper Works Nightfall Editions arrive

Black theme and performance bits with new JCW 3-Door Hatch and Convertible special editions

MINI has rolled out another batch of limited-run models, this time targeting its sporty John Cooper Works 3-Door Hatch and JCW Convertible with a dark and brooding ‘Nightfall Edition’.

Priced from $70,990 drive-away for the hatchback and $75,290 drive-away for the cabriolet, the Nightfall Edition MINIs are coated in an exclusive Enigmatic Black metallic paint and come with a carbon-fibre bonnet scoop, JCW Sports brake system upgrade, JCW tailpipe surrounds and 17-inch Track spoke wheels finished in (you guessed it) black.

The MINI badges have also been blacked out, while various other exterior trim elements, including the headlight covers, door handles and waistline finishers, have had a piano-black treatment applied.

Piano-black surfaces are also found in the cabin, along with carbon-black Dinamica/leather-bound JCW sports seats, an Alcantara-clad JCW sports steering wheel, carbon-fibre JCW handbrake and, on the 3-Door, Anthracite headlining and a panoramic sunroof.

The special-edition models are now available for purchase online, however numbers are strictly limited to just 50 examples – 40 hatches and 10 convertibles.

Power comes from the same 2.0-litre twin-turbo petrol engine (170kW/320Nm), paired to an eight-speed automatic, with power sent to the front wheels.

Acceleration from zero to 100km/h takes 6.1 seconds in the hatch, and 6.5sec in the slightly heavier drop-top.

Standard carryover cabin highlights include a 5.0-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8.8-inch infotainment unit with wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Also included in each is a Harman Kardon 12-speaker audio system, adaptive cruise control, adaptive LED headlights, reversing camera and more.

According to MINI Australia general manager Brett Waudby, the BMW-owned British brand has seen its highest-ever rates of JCW model sales in Australia this year and he expects the Nightfall Editions “to up the ante”.

“We’ve packed a massive amount of additional John Cooper Works upgrades into both cars, and we expect both cars to deliver heart-pounding thrills on both road and racetrack,” he said.
