MINI prompts Holden photo hunt

In October 1966, MINI Cooper S racers filled the top nine places at the Gallagher 500 at Bathurst -- the forerunner to today's Ford versus Holden Supercar showdown.
The winning 1275 cc car was piloted by international BMC works driver, the Flying Finn, Rauno Aaltonen. He was partnered by Australian racer, Bob Holden. Their car, lucky number 13, was painted Castrol Green, and ran strongly all through the 500 mile event before leading a gaggle of eight further MINIs to the finish line.
Filling the second and third places were top names in Australian motorsport: Fred Gibson/ Bill Stanley in car number 17 and Bruce McPhee/Barry Mulholland in car 22. For the record, MINI Coopers finished 1-2-3 in Class B as well.
Memories of that momentous marathon on The Mountain remain fresh in the minds of Bob Holden and Rauno Aaltonen, but 40 years on, there are only black and white photographic images in the MINI Australia archives.
So MINI is launching a national search for colour photographs of the famous winning Aaltonen/Holden car, number 13 C, in action on The Mountain in 1966.
Now’s the time for race fans to dig into their packets of old photo, shoeboxes of snaps, and album archives to find a suitable shot of the magnificent MINI.

According to MINI, a suitably maxi MINI reward is promised to the best shots recieved by September 1.
