MINI record breaker arrives...

A very special MINI has arrived in Australia...

MINI's landmark 200,000 per annum production level has been strongly sprouted around the automotive media. However, proof positive of the impressivedouble-ton manufacturing mark arrived in Sydney recently in the shape of a Pepper White MINI Cooper S Cabrio.

The 200,000 MINI to be built by the BMW-owned marque in 2005 -- the first year in which the milestone was reached -- will have found its way to an Aussie owner by the time you read this.

Surprisingly, MINI's production betters some of the automotive landscape's 'big' names. Jaguar sold around 90,000 cars globally last year year, Italy's iconic Alfa Romeo and Lancia brands built around 140,000 and 118,000 respectively, while SAAB built 120,000.

To date, more than 750,000 of the new MINI hardtop and Cabrio models have been produced since production began in 2001.

Down Under MINI recently launched the Park Lane and Checkmate 'character' models. Look out for a drive impression on the two new variants at CarPoint early next month.
