MINI wagon starts at $34,400

MINI Clubman arrives Down Under next month

MINI has announced pricing for its Clubman wagon which goes onsale Down Under next month. Effectively the third body style for the BMW-owned reborn small car brand, the Clubman kicks off, priced from $34,400.

That princely sum will buy you the base model, naturally-aspirated Cooper.

In principle, the range follows the same steps as the hardtop, with up-specced Chilli variants offered in both Cooper and turbocharged Cooper S versions.

The Cooper features the same 88kW 1.6-litre four-cylinder powerplant as the hardtop and save for the new body style -- with 80mm wheelbase stretch, rear 'Splitdoor' and driver's side Clubdoor -- is largely mechanically identical.

In its Chilli variant, the six-speed manual MINI Cooper Clubman is priced from $38,200.

The 128kW 1.6-litre turbo MINI Cooper S Clubmans start from $43,200, rising to $47,000 for the Chilli model.

All versions are available with six-speed automatic transmissions complete with steering-wheel mounted paddle shifts.

The new MINI Clubman officially goes on sale on March 6.
