Mitsubishi has added a new variant to the upgraded Lancer line-up -- the new SX model -- to sit between entry-level Lancer ES and mid-spec Lancer VR.
The news comes just days after Mitsubishi announced similar changes to its Outlander SUV range.
The Lancer SX fills a specification gap for hatch and sedan models, adding a leather-wrapped steering wheel with remote audio controls, rear spoiler and 16-inch alloy wheels to the ES model's already generous feature list.
"The SX Lancer complements the current Lancer line-up and provides a variety of high quality safety and functional features, at an attractive and economical price," said Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited president and CEO, Masahiko Takahashi.
Elsewhere in the Lancer range, a number of changes inside and out are also noted, including an updated brake assist package, improved power window system, revised sound insulation material, USB music interface port, colour LCD display and welcome lights now offered on all variants.
Lancer VR, VRX and Ralliart models also receive Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity, i-Pod cables and (optional) revised Mitsubishi Multi Communication System, which includes satellite navigation.
The 2011 Lancer range offers three petrol powerplants across the line-up, SX, ES and VR models receive a 2.0-litre (113kW/198Nm) four-cylinder engine, VRX and Aspire models a 2.4-litre (125kW/226Nm) four-cylinder, while Ralliart models receive a turbocharged and intercooled 2.0-litre (177kW/343Nm) four-cylinder engine. Lancer Evolution use the same engine as found in Ralliart models, but developing an impressive 213kW/407Nm.
Safety features for all models include stability control, anti-lock brakes with emergency brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution, and seven airbags for a five-star ANCAP safety rating. The colour palette remains unchanged across the Lancer range.
"With 11 variants, the Lancer range has a model to suit any style or budget. And with the addition of the new SX variant, the Lancer line-up can offer customers style, functionality, efficiency, safety and power without breaking the bank", said Takahashi-san.
All Lancer models are offered with a comprehensive five year/130,000km whole of vehicle warranty which is backed up by a 10 year/160,000km powertrain warranty and a five year/unlimited kilometre roadside assistance package.
