Mitsubishi ASX ES Street headlines MY24 small SUV range

The Mitsubishi ASX has been updated for 2024 with a series of variant-specific safety enhancements and the release of an optional styling pack for the mid-range ES grade.

Having already entered production, the 2024 ASX line-up is headlined by the debut of what Mitsubishi has labelled the ‘ES Street accessory pack’ – a $2500 optional extra designed to up the aging small SUV’s sex appeal beyond the established MR and GSR variants.

Exclusively available for the ES and only in conjunction with certain body colours (White Diamond, Sterling Silver, Black), the pack adds a black front splitter, tailgate protector and door-handles, black and red skid plates, stainless steel-finish scuff plates, a unique side decal package and ‘Street’ tailgate decal.

No changes have been made to the interior or mechanical package, however, the wider ES trim as well as the better-equipped MR have both been treated to lane departure warning as standard.

No other major changes are forthcoming for Mitsubishi’s evergreen compact SUV in terms of equipment, though prices have increased by $500 across the board.

That means the base GS manual now starts from $24,490 plus on-road costs, while the flagship Exceed tops out at $35,240 plus ORCs.

Two engines are offered under the bonnet of the ASX: a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol outputting 110kW/170Nm and a bigger 2.4-litre unit good for 123kW/222Nm. The latter is only available for high-end GSR and Exceed grades.

A continuously variable transmission (CVT) sends drive to the front wheels across all grades, however, a five-speed manual is available with the base GS.

Despite now being more than a decade old beneath its facelifted skin, the ASX continues to be one of the more popular offerings in the sub-$45,000 small SUV segment – something Mitsubishi Australia CEO Shaun Westcott chalks up to its blend of style, space, reliability and aftersales care.

“Demand for ASX continues to be strong and our dealers consistently sell their entire planned monthly allocations, which further demonstrates its enduring popularity,” he said.

“Now with the ASX ES Street accessory pack, we can offer another distinctive ASX flavour to our customers.”

The ASX currently accounts for 5.9 per cent of the mainstream small SUV segment with 5695 units delivered as of August 31 – well down on the segment-leading MG ZS (20,624, 21.5%), Mazda CX-30 (8376, 8.7%) and Haval Jolion (7353, 7.7%).
