Has Mitsubishi taken a leaf out PlayStation's book by launching a Platinum edition of its 380?
The games console giant re-releases its top selling games as Platinum editions at around half the original price once they reach a certain sales milestone. With the 380 far from breaking sales records (under 1000 were sold in September), Mitsubishi is no doubt hoping the 'value-added' Platinum pack will kick sales along for the unloved but critically acclaimed front-wheel driver.
The Platinum 380 is not half price but adds over $4000 worth of accessories, Mitsubishi says. It states a "limited number" will be offered.
Based on the 380 SX, the '380 Platinum Edition' is available in both manual or auto versions priced at $30,990 and $32,990 respectively. This is $2000 less than the SX's current listed RRP.
The standard SX features a reasonable level of equipment too. ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), driver and passenger and side airbags, power windows, mirrors and driver's seat, climate control aircan and MP3-compatible six-disc CD stacker all all included in the spec.
Mitsubishi lists the Platinum Edition's add-ons as:
The 380 Platinum Edition is available in a choice of four colours -- Storm, Platinum, Electro and Stealth (pictured) -- and is now on sale.
The limited or special edition Platinum is a continuation of the strategy Mitsubishi adopted when it re-launched the 380 earlier this year.
