Mitsubishi hatch concept ready for Geneva

The Prototype-S Sports Hatchback concept is a preview of the forthcoming Lancer hatchback

Mitsubishi has prepared a Lancer-based concept, the Prototype-S, for the Geneva Motor Show.

The hatchback concept is based on the Lancer Evolution X, but the concept is a pointer to the look of the Lancer hatch, when that car is released later this year.

Styling for the concept follows the same general path as the Lancer and also shares cues with the Concept Sportback design study that dates back to 2005 (pictured in silver).

The 177kW of peak power for the Geneva concept comes from a turbocharged and intercooled 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine developing 343Nm of torque and driving through a twin-clutch automated manual transmission to an all-wheel drive system complete with Active Centre Differential.

Geneva opens its doors from March 4 to 16.
