Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has announced it will enter an i-MiEV prototype in this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
The legendary race attracts cars and bikes from across the globe, each climbing to the top of the 4300 metre summit against the clock. First held in 1916 the event is one of the oldest of its kind; atmospheric pressure, temperature, weather and road conditionsall play part in the spectacle and excitement of the unique race.
MiEV Prototype is based on the production version of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, just like the one currently on test at motoring.com.au. It will be piloted by Hiroshi Masuoka, a racer with successes that include the Dakar Rally (2002 & 2003). The vehicle will use the same running gear as its donor vehicle, MMC saying it will use data collected from the event to enhance the durability and reliability of pure EVs and future plug-in hybrid EVs.
