Mitsubishi Motors Australia has released a pair of cheaper two-wheel drive variants of its popular Mitsubishi Pajero Sport range, the entry-level version of which lowers the large off-road SUV’s base pricing to $46,740 drive-away.
That makes the on-road price of the new rear-wheel drive 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport GLX five-seater $750 cheaper than the list price of the four-wheel drive version, which previously opened the range at $47,490 plus on-road costs.
Meantime, the new mid-range 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport GLS 2WD seven-seater joins the line-up at $51,740 drive-away.
Both new rear-drive versions of the Mitsubishi Triton-based ladder-frame SUV, which now matches 2WD versions of direct rivals including the Ford Everest, Isuzu MU-X and LDV D90 come with the same powertrain as 4WD versions.
That means a 133kW/430Nm 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine paired to an eight-speed automatic as standard.
However, while official combined fuel consumption remains unchanged at 8.0L/100km, towing capacity reduces by 100kg to 3000kg.
Ands apart from the lack of Mitsubishi’s capable Super Select II 4WD system with selectable off-road modes, specifications are as per existing GLX and GLX variants.
So standard equipment continues to include autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, digital radio, Bluetooth and keyless entry with push-button start. Metallic paint remains a $740 option.
Both new 2WD models are listed on Mitsubishi’s public website and now available to order, however, carsales understands deliveries won’t take place until early 2022.
All Mitsubishi models come with the brand’s industry-leading 10-year/200,000km warranty and 10-year/150,000 capped price service plan – provided your service your vehicle at a Mitsubishi dealer.
There are no other changes to the Pajero Sport range, which continues to top out with the 4x4 seven-seat GLS ($52,240 plus ORCs) and flagship Exceed ($57,690 plus ORCs).
