Mitsubishi has released yet another special-edition version of its aged Lancer, which celebrates its 10th birthday this year.
This time it’s the Lancer Black Edition, based on the latest entry-level MY17 Lancer ES Sport sedan, which itself is currently being offered with a manual transmission for $20,990 drive-away including a $1000 fuel card.
Apart from a CVT automatic transmission, the Black Edition comes with a host of black-themed extras as standard for the same $22,990 drive-away price, or $22,000 plus on-road costs (just $2500 more than the Lancer ES Sport manual’s list price).
Extras include 18-inch black alloy wheels, a black roof panel, black front grille and rear spoiler, alloy sports pedals and a leather-trimmed steering wheel with red stitching.
These features are in addition to strandard base Lancer sedan equipment like a 2.0-litre petrol engine, reverse camera, Bluetooth connectivity and digital radio.
Of course it also comes with Mitsubishi’s Diamond Advantage five-year/100,000km warranty, four-year roadside assist and three-year capped-price servicing.
First launched in 2007 and with no successor in sight, Mitsubishi says it will continue to import the current, fifth-generation Lancer while it remains popular — even if it means switching production to Taiwan because it will no longer be built in Japan.
