Mitsubishi reprices Mirage

Price cuts for Mitsubishi light-car, but not at base level

Mitsubishi has announced price reductions for its Mitsubishi Mirage, less than nine months after it went on sale in January.

Although the base price remains unchanged at $12,990 plus on-road costs for the ES five-speed manual, the CVT automatic version is now $750 cheaper at $14,490 plus ORCs.

The mid-range Mirage Sport now costs $13,990 (manual – down $200) and $15,490 (CVT – down $950), while the flagship Mirage LS manual is now $500 more affordable at $14,990, putting a neat $1000 between each of the three model grades.

The biggest saving is offered for the most expensive Mirage, the LS auto, which now costs $16,490 (down $1250) and now means the CVT auto carries the same $1500 price premium across the range.

Mitsubishi says the price changes make one of Australia’s cheapest light cars even more affordable.

“The Mirage offers owners a complete package -- an affordable, nimble city-car that offers five-star safety, outstanding fuel economy, easy to drive manoeuvrability, four doors and plenty of interior space and is one of Australia’s most affordable light cars,” said Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited CEO, Mutsuhiro Oshikiri.

The Mitsubishi was recently named in the National Motoring Associations’ 2013 Cost of Vehicle Ownership survey as one of the cheapest five-star ANCAP safety-rated light cars to own.

Based on a all running costs, the Mirage ES claimed top honours in Western Australia (RAC) with an average weekly cost of $108.67 and Victoria (RACV) with $112.81/week. It also finished a close second in Tasmania (RACT) at $107.80/week, Queensland (RACQ) at $117.31 and South Australia (RAA) at $122.54/week.

The Mirage is covered by Mitsubishi’s five-year/130,000km new-vehicle warranty, plus five years’ Roadside Assist and Capped Price Servicing for the first four years or 60,000km.

So far this year the Mirage has attracted more than 6900 sales for a 7.9 per cent share of the mainstream light-car segment, placing it fifth behind the Mazda2 (12.5 per cent), Toyota Yaris (11.1 per cent), Hyundai i20 (9.5 per cent) and Suzuki Swift (8.4 per cent).
