Mitsubishi has added a special edition RX model to its new-for-2010 Lancer as the company tries to close the gap to the class sales leading Mazda3 and Toyota Corolla. The MY10 Lancer ES, VR, VRX, Aspire and Ralliart, as well as the RX, all feature a number of minor interior and exterior upgrades at no added cost.
"In the current economic climate, customers are seeking great value for money without compromising on style, functionality, efficiency, safety or power," Mitsubishi Australia president Rob McEniry said today in announcing the update.
"This new 2010 model year Lancer line-up lets our customers have all this without breaking the bank."
The RX (pictured) is designed to sit just above the entry-level ES model in the Lancer model range. It features the standard equipment of the base car but adds 16-inch alloy wheels and unique badges. It is available in either sedan or five-door Sportback body-styles, with a rear spoiler fitted as standard to the later but optional on the sedan.
Changes across the board include a revised interior with a new-look instrument cluster, improved ETACS (Electronic Total Automobile Control – a system which integrates stability control, antilock brakes, etc), synchronised windscreen washers and VRX-style taillights.
The entry-level ES model earns an addition console storage box and cupholder lid, while side and curtain airbags are now available as an option. Changes to the VR model include a chrome upper grille, 16-inch alloys and the option of the premium Rockford Fosgate sound system.
There are more significant changes to the sports-themed VRX with a sound-deadening windscreen now fitted to improve interior noise and comfort. The other notable change is the standard fitment of the premium sound system.
The luxury-themed Aspire also earns the new windscreen and sound system too. New chrome-finished door handles are fitted to help it stand out from the rest of the range.
Mitsubishi hasn't forgotten the top-of-the-ranger Ralliart Lancer either. That model also gains the new windscreen and an optional upgrade pack that include the premium audio, leather seats and Mitsubishi's Multi Communication System.
The VRX, Aspire and Ralliart also gain a leather handbrake as standard.
All new Lancer models will be available from Mitsubishi showrooms across Australia tomorrow (September 16).
