The Nissan Ariya battery-electric SUV has arrived, and it’s looking to start a fight with the Tesla Model Y.
As the first mainstream SUV EV that could generate genuine mainstream appeal, and give Tesla a blood nose, the Nissan Ariya is a mid-size SUV the size of a Toyota RAV4 and has an all-electric range of up to 610km.
Together with clever packaging, futuristic interior fit-out and plenty of room for five passengers and their luggage, the Ariya is fast. Real fast.
With two different lithium-ion battery packs hooked up to single or dual-motor powertrains, the Ariya belts out up to 290kW and 600Nm of torque – which is close to Nissan GT-R levels of torque.
