Modena Ferrari Museum opening
Italian community celebrates the achievements of il Commendatore and his scuderiaEnzo Ferrari’s 1898 birthplace became a museum last week as the city of Modena in Italy paid tribute to one of its most famous sons.
The Museo Casa Enzo Ferrari is in the middle of Modena, in northern Italy near Bologna, and aims to tell the story of Enzo Ferrari’s career and his commitment to the city he called home.
Dozens of vintage Ferraris and car clubs from all over Italy converged on the city, which also played host to a replica Grand Prix race start on its historic main street, Via Emilia.
While it was Ferrari as the centerpiece, Maserati wasn’t forgotten, either, which is fitting given the museum is about 200 metres from the Maserati head office.
The 6000m² museum is a combination of the historic, with Ferrari’s birthplace, and the new, with a futuristic, louvred building painted in the same Modena yellow that Ferrari chose for his Prancing Horse badge.
The museum boosts the Modena region’s reputation as a must-see for car enthusiasts. While Stuttgart has both the Daimler and Porsche museums and Munich has its BMW Museum, Modena also has the Galleria Ferrari, the Lamborghini Museum, the Stanguellini Museum and the Maserati-specialist Panini Museum all within 30km of the city centre.
