Monster Volkswagen Amarok AT35 revealed
Icelandic-spec Volkswagen Amarok conversion unveiled, sadly a one-offVolkswagen's commercial division has unveiled a wild new Volkswagen Amarok AT35 that's been adapted to the harsh Icelandic winter.
Modified by Icelandic off-road specialists, Arctic Trucks, the same outfit that prepared the Toyota Hilux for the Top Gear episode to the North Pole, the Volkswagen Amarok AT35 features a raft of updates to help it tackle snow, ice and the rocky terrain.
Most noticeable are the wide flared fibre-glass wheel arches and 25mm front and rear suspension lift kit both necessary to accommodate the enormous 315/70R17 all-terrain tyres.
On-board, Arctic Trucks added everything needed for an expedition, including a portable generator, VHF radio, full toolbox, jacks and, even, a cappuccino machine.
There's also a full first aid kit with a defibrillator, should the worst happen.
Under the bonnet the standard car's 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel carries over unchanged, meaning it produces the same 190kW and 580Nm as the pick-up trucks we get.
Sadly, there's no plans to introduce or offer any of the Amarok AT35 updates at your local Volkswagen dealer and the one-off VW truck will spend the rest of its days as a support vehicle for winter driving experiences in Iceland.
