The 2025 Kia EV9 GT has been revealed at the LA motor show, with the three-row all-electric SUV making its debut with big power and hot-hatch-humbling performance.
Lining up alongside the Kia EV6 GT, the new three-row Kia EV9 GT features a 374kW dual-motor powertrain good for 0-100km/h in a claimed 4.3 seconds, backed up by a focused chassis set-up and an electronic limited-slip rear differential.
There’s no word as to why the EV9 GT features less power than the EV6 GT, but it’s still considerably faster than the rest of the EV9 portfolio while the retuned springs, adaptive dampers, sway bars, enlarged brakes and stickier tyres ensure sharper dynamics.
One ace up the EV9 GT’s sleeve is its inclusion of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N’s virtual eight-speed transmission and active sound design which together, mimic the tactile and aural characteristics of an internal combustion powertrain.
The drawback to all this extra performance and enthusiasm is expected to be a reduced range, although Kia is yet to release the official figures yet or even a battery capacity – odds are it will be the same 99.8kWh unit as seen in the Earth and GT-Line.
DC fast-charging at up to 350kW yields a claimed 10-80 per cent top-up in less than 25 minutes.
The fastest EV9 rolls on unique 21-inch alloy wheels behind which reside lime-green (enlarged) brake calipers, while the body is spruced up with some angry bumpers, new active air flaps and tweaked lamps.
Inside the cabin you’ll find bucket seats with Alcantara inserts, different ambient lighting, lime green stitching, accents and graphics, as well as plenty of GT badges.
The EV9 GT will arrive Down Under in the second half of next year as the mothership of Kia’s local portfolio, positioned well upstream of the $121,000 EV9 GT-Line.
