The 2024 Zeekr X is one step closer to its Australian release following the publication of government homologation documents that reveal a European-style two-pronged assault for the upcoming Chinese brand’s all-new small electric luxury SUV.
Neither of the two Zeekr X variants have had their Australian-market nameplates listed, but they will be distinguished by their powertrains and wheel sizes, with the single-motor version rolling on 18inch rims as standard and the dual-motor on 19s.
As per the closely-related Volvo EX30 and upcoming Smart #1, the single-motor Zeekr X develops 200kW of power (and 343Nm of torque), whereas the more potent dual-motor flagship is good for a combined 315kW (and 543Nm).
Both systems draw current from a 66kWh battery pack that yields the former with a WLTP range of up to 440km and the latter up to 425km – almost identical numbers to the equivalent Volvo and Smart – and the battery itself can be fast-charged at up to 150kW via DC power.
Other details we can ascertain from the Australian Design Rule data include a maximum braked towing capacity of 1600kg (750kg unbraked), the same suspension set-up for both variants (including 190mm of ground clearance) and a big brake kit for the dual-motor version.
The single-motor Zeekr X employs ventilated 322x28mm discs up front and 317x20mm rotors at the rear compared to the dual-motor’s wider and thicker 345x30mm fronts and 333x20mm rears.
European specifications nominate a 5.6sec 0-100km/h acceleration time for the entry-level ‘Long Range RWD’ and a 3.8sec 0-100km/h dash for the ‘Privilege AWD’, again largely mirroring the capabilities of their inter-brand siblings.
Zeekr announced its entry into the Australian market in April with the X and the 009 premium electric people-mover, which are due to arrive by September.
They will be followed by the larger Zeekr 7X electric SUV in 2025 and, perhaps, the mechanically similar 007 sedan.
The premium Chinese EV brand plans to introduce at least two models each year following its initial arrival, despite the fact there are currently only five models in its global portfolio.
Odds are the Zeekr X will be priced from somewhere between $50,000-$60,000, putting it on par with the Smart #1 (from $54,900) and EX30 (from $59,990).
