UPDATE, 09/09/2025: MG Motor Australia has revealed its upcoming U9 pick-up truck will be offered in three variants – Explore, Explore X, Explore Pro – and priced from $55,000-65,000.
It's unclear if those figures are before on-road costs or drive-away, but either way, they roughly align with expectations of the U9 proving a headache for the segment heavyweights on the value front, even at the pointy end of the line-up – the most-capable Toyota Hilux (GR Sport) starts from $74,310 plus on-roads.
Some additional spec details have come to light too, with the flagship Explore Pro set to debut a segment-first (optional) 'electronic foldable rear access panel' that grants access to the cab from the tub and vice versa, on top of extending the tub's overall length.
The system works in tandem with the 2025 MG U9's 'MultiFold' rear seats which can be folded flat like an SUV's second row.
A sliding panoramic roof will also be offered on the flagship, along with vegan leather upholstery and an aviation-inspired gear selector.

MG Australia continued drip-feeding the market information on its looming U9 pick-up truck, having just confirmed the powertrain, inclusion of twin locking diffs, powered tailgate and locally-tuned safety systems.
It would seem the 2025 MG U9 Chinese pick-up truck will be quite the luxury workhorse when it launches in the coming months.
MG today confirmed its first-ever ute will feature the same 2.5-litre turbo-diesel powertrain as the LDV Terron 9 (163kW/520Nm, 8sp auto, full-time 4x4) and a thoughtful step integrated into its one-touch powered tailgate.
Combine these elements with the Australian-tuned independent rear suspension, locally tested safety systems and confirmation of locking front and rear differentials and it becomes clear MG isn’t mucking around.
Equipment highlights meantime will include heated, ventilated and massaging front seats along with dual 12.3-inch displays.
Previous announcements have confirmed a circa-1000kg payload and 3500kg braked towing capacity, both of which put it in the thick of the mid-size and emerging medium-large ute markets.
MG Australia is yet to announce local pricing, the finer specification or range details of the U9, but it’s widely expected to cost more than its LDV Terron 9 relative – which starts from $53,674 drive-away – while still busting the chops of the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max on value.
Said announcements are expected to be made in the coming weeks, if not days, though pre-orders are already open.
“Further details including pricing, warranty, full specifications, delivery timelines and accessory offer information will be announced in due course,” MG said in a statement.
