More details and pics: VUHL 05

Goodwood Festival of Speed debut for wannabe Mexican KTM-mimicking low-volume sportster

We previewed the VUHL 05 (short for ‘Vehicles of Ultra-lightweight and High-performance) a few months ago, and now the Mexican-based concern has released additional images of its KTM X-Bow-mimicking sportster and announced a tie-up with Michelin.

The lightweight road-legal 05 makes its world public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (from July 11-14), but there is as yet no detailed info pertaining to the car’s tech spec, on-sale date or pricing.

All we know for now is that the VUHL’s handling was allegedly optimised in the UK, while the car’s body will be fabricated in Canada, with final assembly taking place in Mexico City by a manufacturing concern known as Adman Leku.

According to the press blurb, the project is backed by a number of blue-chip companies and the Mexican government, and its development partners include Ford, Multimatic and now Michelin.

Its maker claims the the VUHL 05 has been engineered for the track and “endowed with exhilarating performance for both the road and the circuit”.

Low-volume niche projects such as this crop up nearly every second week, so we’re taking it all with a generous pinch of salt. That said, its creators may surprise us by actually getting the 05 past the concept stage.

VUHL Automotive director Iker Echeverria said: “We are so pleased to add Michelin to our inventory of supporting companies, and look forward to the results of our testing with a variety of the brand’s renowned tyres at their facilities in Europe and the US later this year.

“We will take part in the supercar run as part of the ‘First Glance’ class at Goodwood, and look forward to appearing on the stand at the Michelin Supercar Paddock among many of our heroes from the world of high performance cars and motorsport.”

VUHL (pronounced ‘vool’) is the brainchild of brothers Iker and Guillermo Echeverria, whose Mexico City-based design company penned the 05.

According to the press release, the brothers’ passion for all things automotive comes from a hands-on role in the GT and formula racing cars successfully built and campaigned over a 30-year period by their father, Guillermo Echeverria senior.
