More equipment, five seats for Audi A5, A7 Sportback

German importer slashes A7 prices as some Audi A5 Sportback models also gain more features
Audi Australia has fitted five seats as standard 2013 model year versions of both the A5 Sportback and A7 Sportback.
The upgraded seating configuration, which replaces the previous four-seat layout, is accompanied in both models by further standard equipment upgrades and price cuts for some variants.
Selected MY13 A5 Sportback models offer improved value for money with six-cylinder variants packaged with more equipment, while A7 Sportbacks have had their prices cut by between $3500 and $7000 – despite an increase in engine output.
Six-cylinder Audi A5 Sportback models are now equipped as standard with driver's seat memory functionality and fully featured electric mirrors, adding memory settings, auto-dimming, power-folding, reverse-dipping and heating.
A5 Sportback pricing remains unchanged and continues to start at $66,900 for the 1.8 TFSI model and top out at $161,400 for the power-packed RS5.
Reflecting changes announced for the A6 line-up recently, updated A7 Sportback MY13 models have had their engines tweaked to deliver improved acceleration and overtaking capability as part of the company's "continuous commitment to improved efficiency and performance".
Peak torque of the entry-level A7 Sportback 3.0 TDI is upped from 500 to 580Nm, and the six-cylinder diesel engine is now paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission to deal with the increased shunt. Pricing has also been slashed by $7000 to $135,750.
The 3.0 TFSI petrol models get an 8kW power hike, taking the 3.0-litre supercharged petrol V6's power and torque figures to 228kW and 440Nm. The A7 Sportback 3.0 TFSI's price has also cut by $3500, to $143,800.
Sales of the Audi A7 Sportback totalled 130 in 2012 - a drop of almost 32 per cent compared to 2011's sales of 190.
Audi says the realigned A7 pricing “will allow the forthcoming 3.0 TDI Biturbo model to enter the market in a very strong position when it arrives in February”.
All 2013 A5 and A7 Sportback vehicles get three-position rear bench seats as standard (in lieu of twin rear sports bucket seats). Audi says “ADR development requirements” have delayed the rear bench seat’s local introduction before now.
