More gear for Genki

The upgraded Mazda2 Genki arrives in showrooms this week boasting more kit for less coin

The range-topping Mazda2 Genki has long been one of the best-equipped light cars on the market, but with a raft of added equipment, and a drop in price, is now an even better proposition.

Joining Genki's generous equipment list are rain-sensing wipers, auto headlamps, single-zone climate control, cruise control and a multi-function trip computer that now includes current and average fuel consumption read outs, distance to empty meter, average vehicle speed indicator and ambient temperature display.

Outside, subtle changes to the front bumper mould, the addition of a chrome exhaust tip and newly designed alloy wheels round out the changes.

Surprisingly, and despite its added equipment, Mazda2 Genki actually decreases in price by $445 against the previous model.

"The sales success of the Mazda2 so far this year really speaks volumes for the quality of this car," said Mazda Australia national marketing manager, Alastair Doak.

"We had the benefit of upgrades to the Neo and Maxx models earlier this year and now we're delighted to see the whole Mazda2 range updated. There's been a significant amount of equipment added to the Genki and we're sure that this will strike the right note with buyers," he said.

Year to date, the Mazda2 has found almost 6000 buyers, an increase of more than 30 per cent compared with 2010.

2011 Mazda2 Genki pricing:
Mazda2 Genki $20,495 (man.) / $22,145 (auto.)
