Mercedes-Benz has upgraded the GL-Class SUV for 2010, bolstering the standard specification by over $15,000 for the top-spec GL 500. The 'First Choice' equipment enhancements come at a price, but the added value is a nett figure.
"Even though the GL-Class is import duty-exempt we have still included it in our ongoing value strategy for our customers," said Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz cars, Mr Horst von Sanden, welcoming the upgraded GL-Class range.
"These important revisions are part of Mercedes-Benz' ongoing value strategy -- a long-term programme specifically designed to offer Australian customers the best possible value. Critically, the equipment enhancements chosen to become new standard features are the most popular optional extras; this ensures customers receive specific equipment they actually want."
We first revealed that the GL-Class would be arriving in Australia back in May of last year, but the introduction of the revised model range has been delayed while the importer adjusted its stock levels.
"Basically it's been out there for a little while," says Senior Manager - Corporate Communications for Mercedes-Benz, David McCarthy. "We just waited for the stock level to build again."
As the entry-level model in the range, the GL 350 CDI has risen in price by $3190 to $114,900, but its extra features are worth $8575, says the importer. That amounts to a favourable outcome for the buyer, to the tune of $5385. Extra features for 2010 in this variant include: Direct-Steering in lieu of speed-sensitive power steering, Nappa leather-bound multi-function steering wheel, aluminum-finish running boards with rubber studs, COMAND APS HDD navigation system with single-disc CD/DVD entertainment system, reversing camera, chrome-look roof rails and 19-inch alloy wheels in a five-spoke design. This vehicle is identified by its LED tail lights and a new rear bumper with partly integrated exhaust pipes.
Trimmed to a higher grade, the GL 350 CDI Luxury rises in price to $126,900, an increase of $3300 offset by $14,350 worth of extra equipment for a nett difference of $11,050 in the buyer's favour. In addition to the basic spec level, the Luxury variant also gains bi-xenon headlights with Active Light System, dynamic range adjustment, cornering light function, headlight cleaning; LED day running lights; COMAND APS HDD navigation system with six-disc in-dash CD/DVD entertainment system; 'Convenience Telephony'; ambient lighting; anthracite poplar wood trim/chrome decorative highlights; dark-tinted glass in rear side windows/rear window and 20-inch alloy wheels in a five-spoke design.
As the flagship of the range, the petrol V8-engined GL 500 is priced $11,400 higher -- at $168,900 -- with $26,650 worth of additional gear. This results in a difference of $15,250 for new buyers. The additional equipment in excess of the GL 350 CDI Luxury specification comprises KEYLESS-GO lock/unlock/drive authorization; Distronic intelligent cruise control; TV tuner with analogue/digital reception; NECK-PRO luxury head restraints and 21-inch AMG-designed alloy wheels with flared wheel arches.
All prices are manufacturer's list prices, not including on-road costs and dealer pre-delivery charges.
