More rugged Toyota Yaris Cross Dynamic revealed

Small SUV's new-found toughness is only skin deep and will only be available with AWD hybrid if it comes to Oz

A new flagship for the 2021 Toyota Yaris Cross has been released in Europe that introduces a more rugged look, but no more off-road capability.

Called the Toyota Yaris Cross Dynamic (or Yaris Cross Adventure in some markets), the new range-topping small Toyota SUV comes equipped with standard 18-inch alloy wheels, new silver roof rails and an off-roader-inspired body kit that includes front and rear bash plates.

Inside, there's a piano black dash, faux leather, a black headliner and a leather-clad steering wheel and gear shift lever.

A further upgrade included as part of a limited-run Premier Edition version of the Dynamic or Adventure adds leather seats, a head-up display, two-tone paint, an electric rear tailgate and a different set of 18-inch rims.

In Europe, the new range-topping trim only comes equipped with the all-wheel drive hybrid powertrain. That means it gets a 1.5-litre three-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine that's combined with a small electric motor to produce 85kW and 141Nm of torque.

If a decision is made to introduce the Adventure or Dynamic trim to the Australia Yaris Cross line-up, a premium over the current Urban AWD hybrid is expected.

Currently the Urban AWD hybrid tops the local range at $37,990 plus on-road costs.
