More Subaru BRZ supplies coming

Undisclosed number of new Subaru BRZ sports cars confirmed for Oz later this year in second wave

A second batch of the new-generation 2022 Subaru BRZ sports car will arrive in Australia later this year, as the local importer continues to grapple with limited supply.

The first 500 examples of the second-generation Subaru BRZ were quickly snapped up by Aussie buyers last year, following an online registration and subsequent ordering process.

With the twin-under-the-skin 2022 Toyota GR 86 now delayed until the second half of the year, Subaru stands to benefit from an additional head-start with its BRZ.

At the national launch this week, Subaru Australia managing director Blair Read said orders for the second allocation of BRZ cars will open later this quarter.

“If you’ve missed out on the first allocation, then you can register your interest with dealers or via our online website,” he said.

“You’ll then be in the queue for the next shipment and will be among the first buyers for that allocation.”

Read wouldn’t be drawn on how many vehicles would be included in the second allocation.

Subaru Australia says it is currently “working with its factory” on the number of vehicles in the second allocation, and is expected to confirm those figures when the online configurator goes live at the end of March.

“There’s a huge amount of demand … the ‘register your interest’ program was extremely impressive. We’re very humbled by the number of Australians that want to get behind the wheel of the new BRZ,” said a spokesperson.

“Globally everyone is experiencing a supply constraint problem … It’s not just semi-conductor related; there has been a lot of supply chain challenges globally and our immediate motivation with our [sales] process is to deliver confidence and transparency to customers around those delivery timeframes.”

The second-generation Subaru BRZ is priced from $38,990 plus on-road costs for the entry-level manual, and tops out at $43,990 plus ORCs for the top-shelf BRZ S automatic – prices that have clearly resonated with enthusiasts.

The new BRZ introduces a larger 2.4-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, plus chassis and suspension revisions and a host of new safety and technology equipment.
