UPDATE: 02/04/2019 5:00pm: Mazda Australia has advised it has some F-BCM replacement parts in stock now, but won't have enough to cover all affected vehicles until June.
Mazda Australia has today issued a product safety recall for 70,731 examples of the Mazda3 hatch and sedan sold between July 20, 2015 and July 11, 2017 (see the list of affected vehicle here, by VIN).
The problem relates to a potentially faulty relay within the Front Body Control Module (F-BCM), which may render the front windscreen wipers useless and requires replacement.
“Drivers may experience reduced or poor visibility while driving due to inoperative front windscreen wipers, possibly causing an accident,” said Mazda’s recall notice on the ACCC’s product safety website.
Mazda Australia says it will contact all affected owners when parts become available, when they will be advised to present their vehicle to their preferred Mazda dealer for the replacement of the F-BCM at no charge.
However, Mazda Australia is yet to advise when replacement parts will be available, and we’ll update this story when it does.
In the meantime, concerned Mazda3 owners can contact Mazda Customer Support on 1800 034 411 or check Mazda's VIN look-up tool.
