Morgan and Pininfarina have pulled the drapes off a new coach-built special-edition called the Midsummer.
Based on the current Morgan Plus Six, the 2025 Morgan Midsummer has a designated production run of just 50 cars – each priced from £200,000 ($A380,000) and all of them already spoken for.
Despite the low volume, Morgan says the Midsummer’s exterior design “previews key elements of future Morgan design language, mixed with the flair and purity of Pininfarina”.
Inspired by classic drop-top two-seater racers from the 1930s and ’40s, the limited-run special keeps Morgan’s trademark long bonnet and short rear deck proportions.
Even though it looks like a Morgan, the body of the Midsummer is completely bespoke and made using hand-formed aluminium panels that take a claimed 250 hours to create.
The open-air exposed cockpit features wood trim made of 400 layers of sustainably sourced teak that was careful laminated together.
The seats and door cards, meanwhile, are covered in leather, while the analogue dials are all exclusively made for the Midsummer.
Finally, instead of a proper windscreen there’s a pair of tiny flyscreens to help keep the bugs out of your teeth.
Beneath the skin, the Midsummer sits on Morgan’s bonded aluminium CX-generation platform and a BMW-sourced 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine that combines with an eight-speed automatic.
There’s no word if the Midsummer gets any more power, but with at least 250kW on tap it should sprint from 0-100km/h in around 4.2 seconds and top out at a very blustery 270km/h.
Sitting on new 19-inch alloy wheels, with bespoke adjustable Nitron dampers, Morgan claims that weight has been kept down to 1000kg (dry).
The Morgan Midsummer will make its official debut at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed in July. Deliveries will begin in 2025 to coincide with the brand’s 115th anniversary.
