It's been just more than a year since its introduction to the Australian market, now Morgan has announced that it will withdraw the sale of its 3 Wheeler model. The announcement comes following further changes to the Australian Design Rules (ADRs) that see it ineligible for registration in Australia from November 2017.
Morgan’s local representatives say the decision is “extremely disappointing”, especially considering the long and costly process involved in qualifying the 3 Wheeler for importation to Australia in the first instance.
Owing to build and freight times, potential Morgan 3 Wheeler customers now have less than two months to order the $97,500 (plus on-road costs) vehicle, the next production slot for Australian delivery slated for June and July 2017.
As a result of the ruling, it’s also highly unlikely that Australia will see Morgan’s all-electric EV3.
The changes in ADR rules also impact Morgan’s four-wheel range. From this month (November 2016), Morgan 4/4, Plus 4 and Roadster variants are ineligible for registration, leaving the Plus 8 the only model in the current line-up not affected by the change in legislation.
Morgan has suspended production of the aforementioned four-wheeled models pending ‘further tests’, and says it may offer limited volume of the range from next year.
On the plus side, Morgan’s new Aero 8 has been approved for Australia, and will enter production shortly. The three-variant Aero 8 range – which has an estimated price range of $270,000 – will arrive in local showrooms early next year.
