The organisers of Melbourne's annual Motorclassica event have drawn a line in the sand. This year will be the occasion to celebrate 50 years of Supercar history.
For the weekend of October 23-25, Motorclassica will assemble a massive collection of supercars from the trail-blazing Lamborghini Miura of 1965 through to the present day.
Among the collection will be a McLaren F1 worth $10 million and – far more affordable – a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona believed to be worth $1 million. Other Ferraris will include an F40 and a 288 GTO.
Not as pretty as the Ferraris is a $1.5 million Pagani Zonda also making an appearance. And a stunning Jaguar XJ220 will be on display as well.
"Supercars are hard to define, there's no dictionary definition, but fundamentally these are the ultimate road cars ... the fastest, most advanced, most desirable cars on earth. And not surprisingly, often the most expensive," Motorclassica Event Director Paul Mathers said.
"To celebrate everything that's special about these amazing machines, we've assembled a truly fabulous collection of the fastest and rarest, it's a line-up the likes of which has never been seen in Australia before – and is unlikely to again."
According to the event organisers, other supercars already locked in include a Lamborghini Countach LP400, a Porsche 959, Ford GT, Lamborghini Diablo and Ferrari Testarossa. With over four months remaining before the event opens to the public, there'll doubtless be plenty more supercars entered.
And another milestone to be recognised in October is the 50th anniversary of the Ferrari Dino.
More information about the event can be found on the Motorclassica website.
