Australian racing identity, Jason Bright, will enter a two-car team in the inaugural TCR Australia Series.
Unlike some of the recently announced two-car placements, Bright has confirmed that he has purchased two Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR cars for his tilt at the title. The cars were secured from TCR Asia front-running squad, Team Engstler.
Bright’s two-car squad will promote his own trade solutions business, Taskforce. The cars will be entered under the moniker, Team Tradie.
Bright travelled to last weekend’s TCR Asia round at Sepang in Malaysia to finalise the deal. There, Team Engstler Volkswagen driver Diego Moran won the second TCR Asia race. Moran currently holds the championship points lead.
Bright will drive one of his Golf TCR entries in the 2019 TCR Australia series. According to TCR Australia, the driver of the second Golf, and the “final make-up of the team that will prepare the vehicles”, will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
The series announced this week that Super2 driver Chris Pither and Australian GT frontrunner and Supercars co-driver Tony D’Alberto will drive Renault and Honda TCR cars respectively in the inaugural running of the series. Toyota 86 Racing series driver Jimmy Vernon has also been named as a driver in the series.
The seven-round TCR Australia championship kicks off at Sydney Motor Sport Park next month.
Bright will celebrate his squad’s entry with a competition, the first prize for which is a drive of the Golf TCR car at the end of the year. The prize pool also includes hot laps with Bright in the TCR racer.
Entries are available at the Team Tradie website.
Bright’s wins include the Bathurst 1000, Sandown 500 and Adelaide 500. His CV includes stints at Holden and Ford’s factory teams.
