Scott McLaughlin remains in charge of the Supercars championship after splitting a win and second place with DJR Team Penske Ford Mustang teammate Fabian Coulthard at Phillip Island.
On a weekend where the technical parity row over the Mustang continued to bubble behind the scenes, the Shell V-Power Fords were rarely threatened for pace supremacy.
Third place on the rostrum was claimed by a couple of young guns; Kiwi Nissan Altima driver Andre Heimgartner on Saturday and Erebus second-year driver Anton De Pasquale on Sunday in a Holden Commodore ZB.
It was also a weekend notable for the poor performance of the factory-backed Red Bull Holden Racing Team. Shane van Gisbergen went 6-7 across the weekend, while Jamie Whincup finished 12th on Sunday after a disastrous retirement on Sunday when a wheel fell off.
McLaughlin leads the championship by 124 points from Coulthard, with Tickford Racing’s Chaz Mostert third 243 points off the pace. Van Gisbergen is fourth, while seven-time champ Whincup has slumped 379 points off the pace in ninth.
