MOTORSPORT: Joondalup Sprint course revealed
Festival of Motoring organisers drop map for challenging Joondalup Sprint eventOrganisers of the inaugural Joondalup Festival of Motoring have released the course map for the Joondalup Sprint, revealing a 2.4km urban parcours circumnavigating Central Park and North Metropolitan TAFE, with flybys of the Joondalup Library, WA Police Academy and Edith Cowan University.
Competitors will have to negotiate the technical street circuit six times in total, including two compulsory sighting runs and four timed runs, with the best three times determining the overall standings.
The 150 competing vehicles will be sent off one by one from the start line on Reid Promenade and turn right onto Lakeside Drive, before blasting down to Kendrew Crescent where they’ll turn right again and head for Grand Boulevard.
Once again turning right, drivers will then fire their cars onto Teakle Court and tackle a dogleg before returning to Grand Boulevard and powering down to the finish line on Boas Avenue.
According to event director Justin Hunt, this particular course layout was chosen for its spectator friendliness, technicality and safety.
“Competitors will find this course delivers an enjoyable amount of technicality,” he said.
“It presents the kind of challenge that will have you comparing strategies with fellow competitors in the Service Zone on how you tackled certain sectors.
“The course also includes fast flowing sectors that will get the engine singing and turning spectator’s heads… this isn’t a car park run.”
Prospective competitors will need a minimum of a Motorsport Australia Speed license in order to take part.
The sprint event forms just one part of the wider Joondalup Festival of Motoring held over two and half days – October 28-30. Other motoring festivities will include a movie night, several coffee-and-cars-style displays, a dedicated classic car show split into regional precincts and of course the sprint event.
Live entertainment, food trucks and plenty of other activities will also be on hand for families to enjoy.
