Brodie Kostecki has stamped his authority on the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship, with a clean sweep of race wins at South Australia’s Shell V-Power Motorsport Park on the weekend.
Returning from his NASCAR debut last weekend, Kostecki now leads Shane van Gisbergen by 137 points heading to the Sandown 500 and the Bathurst 1000.
“[It was an] awesome effort by everyone at Erebus,” said Kostecki.
“It was fantastic execution the whole weekend, fantastic pitstops.
“All of the effort that’s gone into this year is starting to pay off.
“The car has been lightning quick all weekend – I'm glad to take away the clean sweep.
“First one for myself and first one for the team.”
Outside of the dominant Chevrolet, Ford finally returned to pace after its parity issues , with Thomas Randle a star in claiming three podium results, while Kostecki’s championship rivals all suffered various woes, with van Gisbergen going through five steering racks throughout the weekend.
Race one kicked off in sensational circumstances, with championship challenger Will Brown a lap one retirement after being caught up in an incident that also eliminated Jack Smith (SCT Chevrolet Camaro) and Cameron Hill (Truck Assist Chevrolet Camaro).
While Kostecki was able to convert his pole into a race win, it was a far from straightforward battle, with the Fords of Chaz Mostert, Thomas Randle and Cameron Waters close behind at the chequered flag, with Randle capturing his first career solo podium in third.
Kostecki overcame maiden pole winner Randle early in the second race, and led home a more straightforward affair.
Mostert ultimately claimed the bottom step of the podium with an easy pass on David Reynolds at the start of the last lap, while early carnage at the turn six hairpin on the opening circuit claimed Cameron Waters, Will Davison and Jack Le Brocq, with blame attributed to the latter.
Further drama struck in the finale for title challenges, with Will Brown suffering a spin and finishing 13th, while Broc Feeney spun after contact with David Reynolds, and was classified in 25th and last.
At the front of the field, Kostecki claimed the win from Waters and Randle.
Elsewhere in the Supercars paddock, Le Brocq has been confirmed as the replacement for Red Bull-bound Brown at Coca-Cola Racing, while forthcoming moves will see David Reynolds signed at Team 18, and Richie Stanaway as his replacement at Penrite Racing.
Next on the agenda for the Repco Supercars Championship is the return of the Penrite Oil Sandown 500, scheduled for September 15-17.
