Renault has announced it has commissioned motorsports legends Prodrive to build a Megane RX Supercar for the 2018 World Rallycross Championship.
Set to be driven by French rally driver and professional skier, Guerlain Chicherit, Renault has announced Prodrive will be tasked with developing and building the Megane-based racer from the ground up.
Set to begin testing towards the end of 2017, Chicherit will tackle selected rounds of the 2017 season before campaigning the entire 2018 season.
The rookie French driver has so far only competed in six RallyCross events to date, scoring a best of only 16 but has reportedly proved quick in testing.
Renault and Prodrive's decision to begin competing in the growing Rallycross sport mirrors Volkswagen's recent decision to compete in the sport in 2017.
VW will field two cars driven by two-time RallyCross champ, Petter Solberg and double DTM champion Timo Scheider.
