Daniel Ricciardo has just put Lewis Hamilton in the shade – not where it really counts, on the Formula One track, but TV's Top Gear.
Ricciardo was filmed for Top Gear's 'Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car' and lapped the show's airfield test track faster than Hamilton – and a host of other F1 aces past and present.
Piloting a Suzuki Liana Ricciardo was 0.7 seconds quicker than the reigning world champion, clocking a 1min 42.2sec lap.
Ricciardo's predecessor as Australia's F1 representative, Mark Webber, had clocked 1min 43.1sec.
Ricciardo mounted a coffee table and "sprayed" imaginary champagne after his latest "victory".
"This is how I felt after Canada," Ricciardo said, in reference to his first F1 win in the Canadian Grand Prix last June.
On his real job, as team leader now of Red Bull Racing, he said that while there had been problems with the Renault-powered RB11 car at last week's first test at Jerez in Spain, he was looking forward to the remaining two four-day tests in Barcelona.
"Come Melbourne, we'll be right," Ricciardo said of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on March 15.
