Because every time Winterbottom had started on the front row (he had pole last year and in 2007) and got to turn one first, the race had not gone FPR’s way.
Edwards said the team has had its smoothest build up to the event yet, with the race cars finished a week before they had to be transported from Melbourne to Mount Panorama, and there is an air of confident calm in the FPR pits.
Winterbottom and Richards have been on the money in practice with the latter third quickest in the final practice session this morning, but Edwards obviously forgot to instruct Winterbottom to not go too hard in qualifying because his time of 2:07.71sec put him in P2 for tomorrow’s Top 10 shootout!
Not that Edwards is superstitious…
