Mountune sets up shop in Tasmania

Lauded British tuning house for Ford and Volkswagen Group hot hatches finally establishes itself Down Under

Prominent British automotive tuning company Mountune finally has a presence in Australia after a decade of “sustained growth in the Southern Hemisphere”, launching a market-specific website catering to select European-sourced Ford, Volkswagen and Audi models.

The models in question are the current Ford Puma light SUV and a host of discontinued hot hatches including the Fiesta XR4, both generations of Fiesta ST, the Focus XR5, Mk2 Focus RS, Mk3 Focus ST and RS and the just-axed Mk4 Focus ST, plus the Mk7 and 7.5 Golf GTI and Golf R as well as the previous-generation Audi S3.

Performance parts include everything from branded floor mats, performance air-filters and dust caps, though to flash tuning and turbo kits capable of adding more than 130Nm of extra torque to certain vehicles.

Committed Aussie customers previously purchased their desired parts direct from Mountune and them shipped over from the UK, but the establishment of a new ‘service and logistics facility’ in Tasmania means local auto enthusiasts will now be able to buy components specifically tailored to locally offered vehicles and, theoretically at least, enjoy shorter delivery times.

Also catering to the New Zealand market, Mountune Australia now also allows Aussie customers to access real-time technical support in their own time zone.

“We’re delighted to announce our formal expansion into the Asia Pacific market with our new Australian facility,” said Mountune founder David Mountain.

“Having already had a long-standing relationship with customers in the region – as well as a period where our upgrade packages were imported and endorsed by Ford Australia dealers – establishing a physical base ‘down under’ was the natural next step.”

The local operation is being headed by Tom Wallace, who said the establishment of an Australian outpost would improve the customer experience for Aussie performance fans.

Mountune’s arrival Down Under comes roughly eight months after Ford announced both the Fiesta ST and the Focus ST would be axed from the local market amid supply issues stemming from the semiconductor shortage.

In October, the Blue Oval brand then announced the Fiesta nameplate itself would be axed globally and indirectly replaced by the high-riding Puma.
