This Saturday’s virtual auction by Classic Car Auctions in the UK has several vehicles for sale but interestingly, several of them are ones currently owned by celebrities.
So we all know Mr Bean and his little green MINI, but did you know comedic legend Rowan Atkinson is a big Mercedes-Benz fan? Atkinson’s personal 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500E is up for auction and will be the fourth one he has sold to date. This 500E was originally sold new in Japan but was imported to the UK in 2015. In Nautic Blue, Atkinson said, “I’ve never seen another in blue. I have owned four different 500Es over the years and this colour scheme is, to me, by far the most attractive.”
Another British celebrity with a love of classic cars is Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay, who has two vehicles up for sale.
The first is a 1972 BMW 1602 which he bought for himself when he was learning to drive. When he bought it, the car had already clocked up around 35,000kms. In the proceeding years he added around 50,000kms to it while he toured around and wrote songs for his first album. The car was eventually sold to a band member and ten years ago, he bought it back. He apparently intended to restore the car but never got around to it.
The second car Jay Kay is offering up is his 1976 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow which featured in the music video for his 2018 song, Nights Out In The Jungle. The car was refurbished in 2015 and repainted in Rolls-Royce Black Emerald Metallic.
For both Rowan Atkinson and Jay Kay, this is only a tiny portion of two incredibly impressive car collections which we all wish he had.
The auction goes live at 10am UK time on Saturday 28th March.
