If you are planning to be somewhere in the South Australian countryside between November 12 and November 18 this year, be prepared for a time-warp experience as 100 Australian muscle cars from Australia’s 1965-1975 golden era clean out the Holleys for a 2747-kilometre run to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
The inaugural Aussie Muscle Car Run, which starts at Victoria Park Racecourse in Adelaide, is organised by the Falcon GT Club of SA in association with the Leukaemia Foundation and supported by Bridgestone Australia.
It will see as many as 100 muscle cars cruising to every corner of South Australia, from Mount Gambier to Port Augusta, Renmark and Streaky Bay, recalling past glories as they participate in drag racing and show ‘n’ shine activities at selected venues.
Chair of the Aussie Muscle Car Run Kevin May said ““The run offers owners of muscle cars from the golden Bathurst era the chance to take their beloved wheels on a leisurely drive around our great state – all for a good cause.”
The money raised will go towards the establishment of a new leukaemia patient village to supplement existing facilities and provide a home away from home, at no cost, to regional blood cancer patients and their carers while in Adelaide for treatment.
Mr May said that around 11,500 Australians are diagnosed with some form of leukaemia each year, which is equivalent to 31 people each day. He said demand for the service outstrips supply by far. “On average we have eight families waiting for accommodation to become available, and the new village will help alleviate that shortage.
“We encourage all motoring enthusiasts to get behind this worthy cause and register,” he continued.
Participants are required to raise $2500 per team, with all proceeds contributing to the development of the new patient village. For more information about event activities and the travel route or to register, go to the site.
