Jeep Australia has announced a revised MY21 Jeep Wrangler line-up that introduces cheaper new entry-level two-door and four-door variants and does away with diesel power.
Now available to order ahead of first deliveries in January next year, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4x4 range will be powered exclusively by the 209kW 3.6-litre Pentastar petrol V6 matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
That’s because the 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel version of the four-door Unlimited Rubicon flagship, which previously topped the Jeep Wrangler line-up at $70,950 (excluding the recently announced Recon limited-edition priced at $71,450), has been discontinued.
There’s no sign of the new Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid about to be revealed in the US, nor a production version of the Wrangler Rubicon 392 – a 6.4-litre V8-powered concept currently being teased.
For 2021, Jeep’s JL Wrangler range opens $51,950 plus on-road costs – $7500 lower than before due to the reintroduction of the Sport S variant that disappeared for MY20 following its one-star ANCAP safety rating.
The base Wrangler Sport S two-door, which costs $3000 more than the MY19 version, now returns for MY21 with autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and thus achieves the same three-star rating as Overland and Rubicon versions. In addition, it gains Forward Collision Warning Plus, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Path Detection.
Next up is the two-door Overland, which at $61,450 plus ORCs is $2000 pricier than before, while the cheapest four-door Unlimited model now costs $60,950 – $3000 less than before – with the introduction of a new Night Eagle variant that shares its name with newly released Compass and Grand Cherokee models.
The full equipment list is included below, but the Night Eagle misses out on Overland features like leather trim,18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, tail-lights, front fog lights and daytime running lights, body-colour fender flares, grille and removable hardtop, and a heated steering wheel and front seats.
Instead, the new Night Eagle four-door wear gloss-black foglight bezels, grille surrounds, headlight inserts and badging, plus exclusive 17-inch five-spoke black alloys.
Overland and Rubicon versions of the Unlimited four-door top the MY21 Wrangler line-up at $65,950 and $67,450 plus ORCs – both $2000 more than before – and all Rubicon variants add Off-Road+ Mode, which in high-range 4x4 engages sand mode and in low-range 4x4 engages rock mode.
The Trail-Ready Package available for the Jeep Gladiator pick-up is now also offered on Wrangler Rubicon models for $1850. It includes a steel front bumper and a forward-facing grille-mounted off-road camera with integrated washer instead of front parking sensors.
Finally, the Sky-One-Touch Power Top canvas roof is available for buyers of the Unlimited Overland, for $4950.
The only other change for 2021 is the addition of two new paint colours – Snazzberry and Hydro Blue, which won’t be available initially – joining six other bright premium paint options for an extra $745 (Firecracker Red, Granite Crystal, Sting Gray, Billet Silver, HellaYella and Sarge. Black and Bright White are the only standard colours.
Like all Jeeps, the Wrangler is covered by a five-year/100,000km factory warranty and five years of capped-price scheduled servicing, in this case costing $399 every 12 months or 12,000km.
