Alpina will introduce a B4 Gran Coupe in March next year that's based on the latest-generation BMW 4 Series.
According to respected BMW blog Bimmerpost, the highly modified 2022 Alpina B4 Gran Coupe could take the place of the B4 Coupe, with the two-door dropped permanently from its line-up.
With work already well underway, sources suggest the Buchloe-based Bavarian tuner is planning to launch the new model when BMW introduces its all-wheel drive 430ix variant of the G26-generation BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe.
Under the bonnet of the fast Alpina B4, the hotted-up Gran Coupe is set to share the latest B3's twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine that produces 345kW and 700Nm of torque. That's 50Nm more torque, but 30kW less power than the new BMW M3.
The Alpina B4 Gran Coupe will come with all-wheel drive and a tweaked eight-speed automatic that should offer quicker shifts and improved reactions over the standard car.
Later on, a D4 diesel will also be offered in some markets.
Created to slot into the gap between the current BMW M440i and the latest BMW M4, the Alpina B4 Gran Coupe should be capable of a sub-4.0sec 0-100km/h sprint and a 306km/h top speed.
Like all other Alpina models, the new B4 will come with a unique chassis tune that will introduce different springs and dampers for a revised ride and handling balance that should see it offer greater levels of comfort compared to the more extreme BMW M4.
Boosting agility, engineers will also upgrade the four-wheel drive system and limited-slip differential to maximise traction, help turn-in and ensure it offers one of the most involving drives in its class.
Featuring a traditionally subtle body kit, the Alpina will get unique badging, an upgraded interior and its trademark large 20-inch alloy wheels.
Set to be unveiled in the coming months, the Alpina B4 Gran Coupe is expected to come to Australia and be priced around $150,000, a similar marker to the outgoing B4 S BiTurbo Coupe.
