Volkswagen has released yet another teaser aimed at building anticipation for its second-generation 2023 Volkswagen Amarok ahead of its debut later this year.
This time the snowy teaser focuses on the Amarok's rear-end styling, with the digital images suggesting it will come with huge protective plastic cladding around the wheel-arches and lower door sills.
Aside from that, the Volkswagen pick-up closely resembles the Australian-developed next-gen 2022 Ford Ranger and that's no surprise as, for the first time, both are being developed as part of a Ford-VW technical alliance.
Set for an Australian release early in 2023, a few months after its Euro debut, the headline news for the new Amarok is the premium global pick-up will play up its ruggedness and off-road capability.
Up front, earlier previews revealed it will get a full-width LED light bar.
To sit on the Ranger's T6 ladder frame, the 2023 Volkswagen Amarok will be powered by the same engines as the 2022 Ranger, which Ford recently confirmed will be headlined by a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 with class-leading outputs of up to 200kW/600Nm.
Within the cabin, which has also been teased, the Amarok will get a more upmarket interior that's far more minimalist than the current ute.
An earlier image showed a fresh steering wheel with plenty of buttons, as well as a smaller and neater gear selector on the centre console.
A large storage cubby built into the dash also features ahead of the front passenger, while lashings of grey and brown break up a mostly dark interior colour theme.
The new Volkswagen Amarok also features a large central portrait-style infotainment touch-screen similar to the one in top-spec versions of the new Ranger.
It’s likely that variants of the new Amarok will borrow the Ranger’s 10.1- and 12.0-inch touch-screens – and its 8.0- and 12.4-inch digital instrument clusters – but employ Volkswagen’s own multimedia operating system.
Volkswagen says other new tech includes "significantly more driver assistance systems" and enhanced connectivity.
Once on sale, it's thought Volkswagen and Ford will also introduce an electrified version of the Amarok and Ranger.
