New 2024 Nissan Z NISMO teased drifting

Nissan confirms faster Nissan Z sports car is on its way, with a global debut coming soon

The first teaser for the new 2024 Nissan Z NISMO has emerged overnight, officially confirming that a higher-performance version of the latest Z sports car is nearing production.

We saw spy images late last year in the US, which followed a none-too-subtle race-spec Nissan Z GT4 and earlier NISMO racing prototypes in Japan that provided every indication a hotter Z coupe was in the works, preparing for battle with the upcoming Toyota Supra GRMN.

And what an awesome battle it will be, with the Nissan Z NISMO officially previewed for the first time in a 44-second video – performing smoky drifts with Formula Drift champion Chris Forsberg behind the wheel.

No further details have been released other than Nissan USA confirming that the hardcore Nissan Z NISMO will be unveiled “later this summer” in North America, which suggests a debut in the coming weeks.

During the video, Nissan gives us a clear picture of what the faster NISMO Z will look like.

There’s a new front splitter, revised side skirts and larger rear diffuser that all feature new thick red pinstriping.

There’s also an extended rear spoiler and gloss black NISMO wheels.

Under the bonnet, the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 is expected to produce more than the 298kW and 475Nm the standard Z-car pumps out.

Interestingly, in the short vid the NISMO Z drifting is the version with the nine-speed automatic, which suggests the more powerful version might not be offered as a manual.

Inside, there’s a pair of lightweight NISMO-branded Recaro sport seats and unique NISMO graphics for the digital instrument cluster.

As well as the likely engine upgrade, the NISMO version of the Nissan Z is sure to come with a major chassis overhaul, including stiffer sports suspension and bigger brakes to cope with more sustained track use.

The drifting could also indicate the use of a more sophisticated electronically controlled mechanical rear differential.

There’s no word yet on when the Nissan Z NISMO will reach showrooms, but the timings suggest it will go on sale in Europe and the US late this year or early in 2024.

That points to an anticipated Aussie launch later in 2024, with Nissan Australia not yet confirming the Z NISMO for release here but making all the right noises.

The official comment from a Nissan Australia spokesperson was: “Woohoo!”
