New 2024 Peugeot 3008 to feature radical cabin design

Panoramic i-Cockpit includes huge 21-inch floating screen as Peugeot previews new electric mid-size SUV

The incoming next-generation 2024 Peugeot 3008 will switch to battery-electric power, feature a striking new fastback SUV design and introduce the French lion brand’s next-generation panoramic i-Cockpit cabin architecture.

To be revealed in September ahead of an expected Australian launch during 2024, the new Peugeot 3008 will migrate to parent company Stellantis’ Medium platform created specifically for EVs.

Releasing pictures that preview the production car’s futuristic interior, Peugeot’s new cabin design stays true to the original i-Cockpit principals of combining a small low-set steering wheel with the instrument panel and infotainment high up.

But for the new generation, designers have combined both the digital instrument panel and infotainment system within a huge curved 21-inch high-definition panel that stretches from the A-pillar to the centre of the car.

Evolving the i-Cockpit concept further, instead of a row of piano key shortcut buttons, there’s a new touch-screen positioned under the central air vents. Its key role will be to operate the climate control as no switchgear is present in the images released.

Users can also program 10 shortcuts of their preference, cutting the need to swipe through sub-menus.

Up above, the instrumentation and infotainment system should be fully customisable.

Instead of acres of piano black plastic, wood or faux carbon-fibre, Peugeot will also use fabric to cover surfaces and adopt more contemporary metallic finishes.

Storage will be plentiful without the need for a manual transmission or even a traditional gear selector, as evidenced by two large cup holders and a large storage bin lurking beneath the centre console.

There’s still no word exactly how the next Peugeot e-3008 is shaping up externally, but some spy photographs have revealed a far more rakish shape than before.

Improving the range, the next Peugeot SUV will combine a high driving position with a lower roofline for improved aerodynamic efficiency.

At the front of the all-new battery-electric SUV it’s thought the Peugeot Inception concept will heavily inspire the dramatic frontal styling.

A choice of three powertrains and a driving range of up to 700km is anticipated.

A larger all-electric Peugeot 5008 will follow, sharing the same platform and powertrains but offering a third row of seating.

Crucially, the dedicated EV architecture underpinning Peugeot’s new SUVs will offer more space, superior packaging and better efficiency than current electrified models.
