The new-generation 2024 Peugeot 5008 will be fully revealed in March at the French car-maker’s second E-Lion Day, ahead of the flagship mid-size SUV’s launch later this year.
Closely related to the next-gen Peugeot 3008, the all-new Peugeot 5008 will be based on the Stellantis group’s latest STLA Medium architecture and share its smaller sibling’s hybrid and battery-electric powertrains.
The hybrid-powered 5008 is likely to combine a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a small battery, 16kW electric motor and six-speed automatic transmission. In total, the entry hybrid should produce a combined 100kW.
The more expensive all-electric E-5008, meanwhile, will offer three powertrain options.
Entry-level versions are likely to use a front-mounted single-motor powertrain producing 157kW and 343Nm, drawing energy from a 73kWh battery that should offer a range of up to 500km.
Against the clock, 0-100km/h should take about 9.0 seconds.
A long-range version should up the ante with a more powerful 170kW output and a bigger 98kWh battery that provides for a range of up to 700km.
At the top of the tree will be a dual-motor variant that offers all-wheel drive and should produce at least 240kW/509Nm.
With the smaller 73kWh battery, the quickest E-5008 will cover up to 500km on a single charge but hit 100km/h from rest in around 6.5sec.
Charging rates for both batteries is up to 160kW, with 20-80 per cent said to take less than 30 minutes for the biggest battery.
A smart-charge feature (for low-cost off-peak charges) and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability will be available from launch.
Inside, the 5008 should feature a huge 21-inch panoramic screen that is part of Peugeot’s next-generation ‘Panoramic i-Cockpit’ design that integrates the instrument cluster and central infotainment display behind a single curved screen.
Claimed to provide a ‘floating’ effect, the i-Cockpit comes with eight customisable ambient colours to alter the mood within the interior.
Like its smaller brother, expect cool-looking fabric-covered surfaces instead of acres of black plastic on the dash – on top-spec variants, at least.
The new infotainment layout keeps the current i-Toggle touch panel beneath the main screen but introduces 10 configurable icons over two pages that sees users swipe right or left to find them.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be available, plus the car-maker’s onboard voice-activated assistant. A new app, meanwhile, allows owners to pre-condition the E-5008, activate the climate control remotely, schedule battery charging or check the navigation.
Other new tech heading to the flagship 5008 will be cabin air filtration and a powerful 10-speaker 690W sound system developed by French firm Focal.
Peugeot Australia has already confirmed the new 3008 and E-3008 are headed our way, but has yet to announce whether the larger 5008 and E-5008 – which could be offered with a third row of seats – will also be sold Down Under.
More details will be released following the 5008 and E-5008’s debut in March.
