New 2024 Toyota C-HR teased

The second-generation 2024 Toyota C-HR has been previewed ahead of its official unveiling on June 26, with the popular small SUV shown with a full-width LED tail-light treatment and illuminated rear logo.

From previous spy pics we already know that the next Toyota C-HR will be heavily inspired by last year’s Toyota Prologue concept, carrying across its sharp styling that includes a double-bubble roof spoiler.

The evidence of prototypes testing with large-diameter alloy wheels, a black mesh grille and a chunky body kit also suggest a GR Sport version will be offered from launch.

Differing from the concept, the production C-HR will come with traditional door mirrors, although integrated door handles still feature on the production version.

Under the bonnet, Toyota Australia has already confirmed the new C-HR will be powered by a full electrified range of engines.

The current C-HR is available with the choice of either 85kW 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol or 90kW 1.8-litre four-cylinder hybrid powertrains.

Once it’s launched, it’s widely accepted that a full-electric powertrain will be introduced for the first time.

Developed alongside the latest Toyota Prius that’s not sold in Australia, the new C-HR will sit on a heavily updated version of Toyota’s TNGA-C platform.

If so, the fastest versions of the C-HR will come with a plug-in hybrid that’s centred around a 2.0-litre four-cylinder powerplant.

Expect total power for the PHEV to be about 165kW, while the use of a 13.6kWh battery should give the small SUV a pure-electric range of more than 80km.

No exact timings have been released, but the all-new Toyota C-HR is expected to land in Australia in the first half of 2024.

Expect more teasers in the build-up to the June 26 unveiling.
