New 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe: Full Australian details

Comprehensive update for small German four-door sedan: new exterior, overhauled cabin and upgraded infotainment

UPDATED 19/02/2025 5.30pm: BMW Australia has announced its local 2 Series Gran Coupe line-up will be bolstered by the return of the mid-range 220 variant, with prices starting from $62,900 plus on-road costs.

Under the bonnet you'll find a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine good for 150kW/300Nm and 0-100km/h in a claimed 7.3 seconds, while the equipment list is headlined by adaptive dampers, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.7-inch infotainment system, a head-up display, powered front sports seats with memory function for the driver, 'Veganza' upholstery and Driving Assistant and Driving Assistant Plus.

Other goodies include wireless phone charging, adaptive LED headlights, DAB+ digital radio, heated front seats and a powered tailgate.

ORIGINAL: The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has been unwrapped ahead of its Australian launch in early 2025.

Scheduled to kiss Aussie bitument between January and March next year, pricing is set at $58,800 for the 218 Gran Coupe. This represents a saving $6400 over the out-going 220i Gran Coupe.

The flagship M235 Gran Coupe xDrive, meanwhile, costs $85,500 which represents a $1700 increase over the M235i Gran Coupe.

Despite claims to the contrary, the second-generation (F74) BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is actually a big facelift of the first-generation 2 Series Gran Coupe (F44) that was launched back in 2020.

Picking up where the latest 1 Series left off, the BMW A3 sedan and Mercedes CLA rival sports a newly-revised kidney grille complete with optional light-up LED garnish.

Towards the rear there's a subtle new '2' logo on the firm's trademark Hofmeister kink on its flanks, while revised front and rear bumpers contribute to a sportier look.

For the first time there's the option of a gloss black roof and the 2 Series now measures 20 mm longer at 4546mm.

It's the same width (1800mm) but is 25mm taller (1435mm) to benefit interior space, although the wheelbase remains unchanged.

The cabin, meanwhile, has received some substantial changes and now gets a larger 10.7-inch curved touchscreen that slashes the button count and is said to run the car-maker's latest BMW OS9 software.

The old car's rotary controller has been deleted as well.

The new touchscreen is now capable of over-the-air-updates, features a built-in voice assistant and can download apps, like leading video streaming services and games that can be viewed and played when stationary.

From now on leather is no longer an option – save for the steering wheel – while sport seats are standard, whichever model you choose.

2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe powertrains

In Australia just two versions of the 2 Series Gran Coupe will be available – front-wheel drive 218 Gran Coupe and the much-quicker all-wheel drive M235 Gran Coupe xDrive.

The 218 that replaces the old 220i now features a small 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol that puts out 115kW and 230Nm, instead of the old car's 141kW/280Nm.

The powerful M235 Gran Coupe xDrive comes with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 233kW and 400Nm – 8kW more than before, although its 4.9 second 0-100km/h sprint is the same.

For the new generation of M235, the brisk 2 Series Gran Coupe swaps out its old eight-speed auto for a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe equipment levels

Enhanced kit for the 2 Series sees all models get the larger 10.7 infotainment, plus matrix LED headlamps, adaptive cruise control, heated seats and adaptive dampers.

The sportiest M235 adds larger 19-inch alloy wheels, a black roof, heated steering wheel, a premium Hardon Kardon sound system, a panoramic roof, and extra driver assist tech that include lane-keep assist, lane-centring assist, front cross-traffic alert and collision evasion assistant.

If you're wondering why the 'i' has been dropped from both the 218 and the M235, it's because that letter has now been reserved for the car-maker's all-electric models.

How much does the 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe cost?
218 Gran Coupe $58,800
M235 Gran Coupe xDrive $85,500
