New 300C revealed in Chrysler documents

Plan to congress outlines details on next generation model

The new look Chrysler 300C has been exposed in detail in the company's submission to the United States Congress, with the company pinning a larger part of its short-term viability on the updated sedan.

Chrysler's flagship model will feature a new exterior and interior when it goes in sale in the US next year. Images of the car contained in the Chrysler plan show an evolutionary design of the car's trademark looks.

The large chrome grille remains but loses the vertical bars, instead taking on a simpler look with nine horizontal bars topped with the Chrysler logo. Retaining the same basic shape, the headlights have adopted a slightly more angular look. The side profile continues with a high beltline and flared wheel arches front and rear but with a more angular and stylised rear three-quarter and tail.

Inside, the cabin receives a complete makeover with a new steering wheel and dashboard as part of the company's larger plan to improve perceived interior quality.

But the real talking point is what's under the bonnet. Chrysler plans to roll-out a new range of fuel efficient V6 engines starting with the 300C while still retaining its HEMI V8. Chrysler claims it will achieve a 22 per cent improvement in fuel economy for the new model.

The document (more here) also details several new safety features the car will offer including Rear Cross Path and Blind Spot Monitoring systems.
