Multi-franchise new car dealer Michael Tynan is the new national president of the Canberra-based Australian Automotive Dealer Association (AADA).
The Canberra-based organisation represents 1300 new motor vehicle dealers and more than 2300 franchises around Australia. Day to day operations are overseen by retail trader expert and Associate Professor Michael Delaney, acting in the capacity of executive director at the AADA's headquarters in Canberra.
Mr. Tynan has been a franchised dealer for 43 years. His Tynan Motor Group has 12 different franchises, with seven locations to the south of Sydney.
The group includes new-car franchises such as Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Subaru, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Jeep, Kia, Dodge, Chrysler and Mahindra.
Mr. Tynan's appointment is the first for a NSW dealer in two decades and is the latest in a career that has seen him serve in various roles, including as a councillor and mayor at the Sutherland shire council, as deputy president of the NRMA Motoring and Services board and as a board member of the Australian Automobile Association (AAA).
His experience in and commitment to franchised dealer operations is expected to be of significant benefit to the AADA.
"Dealers have a massive investment in the industry [and in some cases are] expected to provide services and facilities to represent a franchise at enormous personal and family risk," Mr Tynan said at the time of his appointment.
"My role as president of AADA is to ensure dealers have a clear voice, their business and community efforts recognised and their contribution to local and regional economics understood."
